What an AI visibility tool does
Customers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI features questions such as “who is a good dentist near me.” An AI visibility tool automates the check you would otherwise do by hand. You give it a list of prompts and your brand name. It runs them on a schedule, reads the answers, and reports three things:
- Mentions: how often your business name appears in the answer text.
- Citations: how often an answer links to your website or another page about you.
- Share of voice: your mentions compared with competitors on the same prompts.
This article is part of our guide to how customers see you, which covers your website, maps profiles, reply speed and AI answers. Here we compare five tools with their published prices, then show a free method that works for one location.
Prices below are what we found on each vendor’s own site in October 2026. We list a price only where the vendor showed it in US dollars. Some sites showed us prices in another currency, and for those we send you to the vendor’s pricing page. Vendors change plans often, so confirm before you buy.
The tools side by side
| Tool | What it tracks | Price we saw (Oct 2026) | Best fit |

| Ahrefs Brand Radar | ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot | Paid add-on; see Ahrefs’s pricing page | Teams already using Ahrefs |
| Profound | Up to 9 answer engines on Enterprise | Free 7-day trial; Enterprise by quote | Large brands and agencies |
| Otterly.AI | Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot | Lite, Standard and Premium plans; see Otterly’s pricing page | Small teams that want prompt-level tracking |

None of these is a Magnet Mint partner. We list them because owners ask about them, and we link only to the vendors’ own pages.
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Semrush describes its AI Visibility Toolkit as $99 a month per domain. It tracks brand mentions, citations and cited pages, shows the topics and prompts where AI names you or a competitor, and reports share of voice and sentiment. Semrush says you get up to 25 prompts by default, with more as an add-on, and a seven-day free trial.
The Semrush article does not say which AI platforms the toolkit covers, so ask before you pay. Semrush’s pricing page also builds AI visibility features into its main plans, so check whether the plan you already have includes enough.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs says Brand Radar covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot, and lists Claude as available too. It reports mentions, citations and AI share of voice, plus estimated impressions weighted by the search volume behind each prompt.
Brand Radar is a paid add-on to an Ahrefs plan. Ahrefs’s pricing page showed us its prices in euros only, so we do not quote a dollar figure: see the vendor’s pricing page. Tracking your own prompts is sold in packages by the number of checks: 2,500, 7,000 or 25,000 a month. One check is one prompt on one platform in one location. For illustration, 10 prompts on 4 platforms checked weekly come to about 160 checks a month, well inside the smallest package.
Profound
Profound is built for enterprise teams. Its pricing page shows two options: a free trial (50 prompts a day for 7 days across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews) and an Enterprise plan with tailored packages and up to 9 answer engines. It lists no public price. It also mentions a self-serve agency plan with 400 credits a month per client workspace, without a price.
You may see older articles quote a lower self-serve plan. The pricing page we opened in October 2026 does not show one, so go by the current page. For a single-location business, Profound is unlikely to be the right size.
Otterly.AI
Otterly’s help center, dated August 4, 2026, lists three plans by prompt count: Lite with 15 prompts, Standard with 100 and Premium with 400. All three cover Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude are paid add-ons. Standard and Premium users can buy extra prompts in batches of 100. There is a free trial with no credit card.
The help center sends you to the pricing page for exact prices, which vary by billing period and currency. We could not confirm a US dollar price, so we do not quote a figure: see the vendor’s pricing page.
Peec AI
Peec AI’s main pricing page did not show us figures when we opened it in October 2026. Peec’s own plan summary, which says its prices were confirmed as of July 2026, lists three brand plans in US dollars:
- Starter: $95 a month, 50 prompts, 1 project.
- Pro: $245 a month, 150 prompts, 2 projects.
- Advanced: $495 a month, 350 prompts, 5 projects.
The same summary says annual billing saves about 15% and that separate agency plans start at $245 a month. It also tells readers to check the live pricing page, because prices change.
What no tool can tell you
Ask every vendor how it measures. A SparkToro study, reported by Search Engine Journal in January 2026, ran 2,961 prompts across ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s AI features, each repeated 60 to 100 times. The same prompt returned the same list of brands in fewer than 1% of runs. The authors advise treating “AI ranking position” numbers with suspicion and asking providers to explain their method. They found that how often a brand appears across many runs is steadier than its position in one answer.
The study has limits. It was done with Gumshoe.ai, a company that sells tracking tools, and it is not peer reviewed. Still, the lesson is practical:
- A single answer is a sample. Repeat each question several times.
- Look at the share of runs where you appear, not at “rank 2.”
- Tools show whether you are named. They do not show why. You still need to check your website, your listings and your reviews.
Free tools you already have
Two free reports cover part of the picture.
- Search Console, Generative AI performance report. It shows impressions of your links in Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device and date. It reports impressions only, and ChatGPT or Perplexity are not part of it. Google says it reached all sites worldwide as of August 31, 2026, and that it may be missing if your site has too few impressions in these features.
- GA4, AI Assistant channel. Google Analytics groups visits from recognized AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini into an “AI Assistant” channel. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode clicks stay in Organic Search. Visits with no referrer still appear as Direct. Our step-by-step guide to ChatGPT and AI traffic in GA4 shows how to find them.
A free manual method for a small business
This takes about 30 minutes a month and needs a spreadsheet.
- Write 10 prompts. Use the words a customer would use. Include five “find me” questions (“best med spa near Cambridge for Botox”), three comparison or trust questions (“is [your business] good?”), and two detail questions (“does [your business] take Delta Dental?”).
- Pick the assistants. ChatGPT with search turned on, Perplexity, and a normal Google search to see AI Overviews. Add Gemini and Copilot if you have time.
- Run each prompt in a new chat. Use the same wording each month. Run the five “find me” prompts three times each, since answers change from run to run.
- Log the result. For every run, record the date, assistant, prompt, whether you were named, your position in the list, which competitors were named, which sites were cited and whether the facts about you were right.
- Compare month to month. Count how many of your 15 “find me” runs named you. A move from 3 to 7 is a signal. A move from 5 to 6 is noise.
- Fix and re-check. Wrong hours, missing services or an outdated address are the fastest wins. Our guide on how to check if ChatGPT recommends your business has prompts you can copy, and the page on what to do when AI recommends your competitors covers the next step.
When a paid tool is worth it
A paid tool starts to make sense when:
- you run several locations and need results per location,
- you track more than 10 competitors or 50 prompts,
- you report to a client or a boss every month and want charts without the manual work,
- you want daily tracking to catch sudden changes.
If none of these fit, spend the money on fixing what the manual check finds.
What we do
Nobody controls what ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Perplexity recommend, and we do not promise placement. What we do is record what the assistants say today, compare it with your website and listings, and repeat the check later so you can see the change. That is one part of the Magnet Mint check. The standard check is from $395, and a free demo shows you how customers and AI assistants see you today.
