GoHighLevel for small business: what it does, what it costs and alternatives

GoHighLevel (branded HighLevel) is an all-in-one platform that combines a CRM, a website and funnel builder, booking calendars, email and SMS, payments and workflow automation. Its pricing page, checked in October 2026, lists plans at $97, $297 and $497 a month, a 14-day free trial, and usage-based fees for texting, calls, email and AI on top. It fits a business that wants many tools in one place and will spend time learning it. A simpler CRM, or a free one, is enough for many small service businesses.

What GoHighLevel is

GoHighLevel, now branded HighLevel, is a platform that puts several business tools in one login. Its pricing page lists CRM and pipelines, a website and funnel builder, workflow automation, email and SMS marketing, booking calendars, payments and invoicing, a mobile app, courses and communities. It was built for marketing agencies that manage many client accounts, and it is also used by single businesses.

If you are choosing a CRM for a small service business, our CRM setup page explains when a spreadsheet, a free CRM or a bigger platform is the right size. This article looks at one platform in detail. It does not rank tools, and we have not tested every feature.

GoHighLevel plans and prices

These are the plans on HighLevel’s own pricing page, as we read it in October 2026. Prices change, so check the page in the sources before you buy.

PlanMonthlyAnnualSub-accountsWhat it adds
Starter$97$970 a year3All core features, 24/7 support
Unlimited$297$2,970 a yearUnlimitedRebilling phone and email without markup, basic API access
Agency Pro$497$4,970 a yearUnlimitedSaaS Mode, automated sub-account creation, rebilling with markup, advanced API access
EnterpriseCustomCustomNot specifiedDedicated account managers, white-label mobile app, HIPAA compliance included (a $297-a-month add-on on the other plans)

The page says all plans include unlimited users and unlimited contacts, and that plans are month to month with no long-term contract. Every plan has a 14-day free trial. Billing starts automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel.

For one business, the Starter plan’s three sub-accounts is usually more than you need. The higher plans exist mostly for agencies that run accounts for many clients.

The costs that are not in the plan price

Several parts of the platform are usage-based, billed on top of the subscription. The pricing page lists them as email and SMS marketing, inbound and outbound calling, Conversation AI, Voice AI and Reviews AI. The page does not give rates and points to separate pricing guides. So the real monthly cost depends on how many texts, calls and emails you send and how much AI you use.

If you send business texts in the US, two more costs apply, whatever platform you use. Texts need the customer’s consent (TCPA), and business texting numbers need carrier registration (A2P 10DLC). This is not legal advice, but it is a setup task that should be done before you send.

What it does well

  • Many tools in one place. CRM, booking, texting, email and automation share one customer record, so you do not need to connect them with another tool.
  • Automation built in. You can build follow-up workflows inside the platform without Zapier or Make.
  • Unlimited users and contacts. Your price does not rise as the team or the list grows.
  • Month to month. There is no long-term contract on the plans listed.

Where it can be too much

  • A long learning curve. A platform that does everything has many screens. Someone needs to own it.
  • Usage fees add up. Texting, calls and AI are billed separately, so the monthly bill is not just $97.
  • It replaces tools you may already have. If your booking tool and website work, moving everything is a big project.
  • Agency features you will not use. Much of the higher-plan pricing buys features for reselling to clients.

GoHighLevel alternatives for a small service business

The honest alternative depends on what problem you are solving.

If you needConsiderWhat its page lists (October 2026)
A place to see leads and next steps, for one or two peopleHubSpot free CRMFree for up to 2 users, 1,000 contacts; Starter seats listed at $7-$20 a month per seat, depending on billing
A customer list tied to quotes and jobsThe CRM inside your field-service tool, such as JobberJobber lists Core at $49 a month for one user
Review requests onlyA review tool such as NiceJobNiceJob lists Starter at $75 and Pro at $125 a month
Leads from your website into a sheet or CRM, with alertsAn automation tool such as ZapierZapier lists a free plan with 100 tasks a month and Professional from $19.99 a month billed annually
Texting, booking, CRM and automation in one toolGoHighLevel$97 to $497 a month plus usage

Two of these are not like-for-like. A review tool does one job, and an automation tool connects other tools instead of replacing them. That is the point: many businesses need one job done well, not a platform. Our automation with n8n, Zapier and Make page covers the connecting option, and website to CRM integration covers getting web leads into any CRM.

How to choose

  1. Write down the job. “Every web lead is saved and answered within an hour” is a job. “Better marketing” is not.
  2. Count users and leads. One or two people and a few leads a week rarely need a platform.
  3. List the tools you already use. Keep the ones that work, and connect them.
  4. Ask for the full monthly cost, including texting, calls, email and AI at your expected volume.
  5. Start with the trial or the free tier and import twenty real contacts before you commit.
  6. Decide who owns it. A tool nobody maintains becomes a list nobody trusts.

Hiring someone to set up GoHighLevel

A “GoHighLevel agency” can mean two things. One is a company that resells HighLevel and manages it for you. The other is a studio that sets up the platform in your own account and hands it over. Ask which one you are talking to, who owns the account and the data, and what happens if you leave.

At Magnet Mint, we set up HubSpot, GoHighLevel and simpler CRMs in your own account, with the pipeline, fields and website forms agreed in writing. We say which tool we would pick for your business, even when it is the free one. See CRM setup in Boston for what is included, or ask for a free demo.

Questions to ask before you buy any CRM

  • What is the full monthly cost for my number of users, contacts and messages?
  • Can I export my contacts and history if I leave?
  • Who sets it up, and who answers a question in month three?
  • Does texting need carrier registration, and who handles it?
  • Will my website forms and booking link connect without custom work?
  • If I handle health or legal information, will the vendor sign the required agreement?

A CRM only helps if leads are entered and followed up. The best-priced platform will not fix a process nobody follows, so start with a small version of it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does GoHighLevel cost?

HighLevel's pricing page lists Starter at $97 a month, Unlimited at $297 and Agency Pro at $497, with annual prices of $970, $2,970 and $4,970. Phone, SMS, email and AI usage are billed on top. The page also lists an Enterprise plan with custom pricing. Prices checked October 2026.

Is there a free GoHighLevel plan?

There is no free plan. HighLevel lists a 14-day free trial on its plans. Billing starts automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel, and usage fees can apply during the trial.

What is a GoHighLevel agency?

It is a company that uses HighLevel to run marketing and client accounts, often reselling it. HighLevel's higher plans include features for that, such as SaaS Mode on Agency Pro. A single business usually needs only one account, which the Starter plan covers with three sub-accounts.

What are good GoHighLevel alternatives for a small service business?

HubSpot's free CRM for up to 2 users, a CRM built into your booking or field-service tool such as Jobber, or a shared spreadsheet plus a simple automation. The right choice depends on how many users you have and whether you need texting and automation in the same tool.

Is GoHighLevel HIPAA compliant?

HighLevel's pricing page says HIPAA compliance is included on the Enterprise plan and available on other plans as a $297-a-month add-on (checked October 2026). A HIPAA option is not the same as a signed agreement, so clinics should confirm that HighLevel signs a HIPAA business associate agreement for their account before any patient information, including appointment requests, goes in. This is not legal advice.

Can Magnet Mint set up GoHighLevel?

Yes. We set up HubSpot, GoHighLevel and simpler CRMs, and tell you the monthly cost of each before you choose. See CRM setup.
